Trend Alert: Bare Those Bellies

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you would have witnessed the midriff trend that swooped in and took the spotlight for the spring/summer 2014 season. Celebrities on the red carpet,  celebrities on the street and even up-and-coming Instagram fashionistas are all jumping on the bandwagon when it comes to this style that seems to casually saunter in-and-out of fashion when it feels like it (think Britney Spears in her prime). Here are some of our favorite recent belly-baring looks.

Sharp As A Pencil

A pencil skirt works perfectly in a midriff style for those who want to add a flirty flare to their overall sophisticated look. Pair the skirt with either a top that hugs the figure, maintaining the slimline effect of the long, straight skirt. Get the look here.

Have you been working hard over the winter to tone that tummy? Go for a  figure-hugging midriff outfit.  Show off those toned abs and curves by wearing a skirt that emphasizes your natural figure. Pair this with a tight crop top and show a bit of skin – you worked hard for it!

This midriff style is a bit of a hybrid of sorts. The skirt and top are connected, albeit by a small piece of fabric to make it a pseudo dress. We like the creative designs that have popped up giving the look an edge that screams modernity and fashion-forward thinking. This is definitely a good choice for someone who wants to add a unique element to their outfit while wearing a midriff style. See another design here.

If I spent 1-1/2 to 2 hours at the gym 6 days a week, working on my abs and my obliques, I would bare my midriff. I don’t, so I won’t and anyone else without a totally toned shouldn’t bare their middle either.
