In the last couple of days, several popular iOS apps have become suddenly and mysteriously free of charge. With Apple’s App Store turning five years old tomorrow, chances are this is some kind of birthday bonanza app giveaway! Among those invited to the party are Tiny Wings, Where’s My Water?, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, Traktor DJ, Infinity Blade II and Badland. Have you played any of these? If not, hurry! Now’s your chance!

The maker of Gorilla Glass — the tough material used on many smartphone and tablet screens — is working on anti-microbial glass technology. Considering the average smartphone touch-screen contains no fewer than 25,000 germs per square inch—more than the average toilet seat—this good news hasn’t come a moment too soon! They’re also developing anti-reflective technology for outdoor use. See the hole in the glass below? That’s not a hole, it’s anti-reflective glass!

With point-and-shoot sales steadily declining while smartphone sales continue to climb, camera giant Nikon may or may not be amidst plans to delve into the mobile phone market. With Samsung already having released an Android-powered camera, we don’t blame them! While president Makoto Kimura declined to comment on whether the company was developing a mobile phone, he did say that “rapid expansion of mobile devices is a change in business environment given to us,” and “our task going forward is to find an answer to that change.” Wow! What could that answer possibly be?

Jelly Bean, the latest version of Android, has reached 37.9% of Android users, surpassing Gingerbread as the most popular of Android’s operating systems. Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean’s predecessor, makes only third place with 23.3% of the Android market, while the previous versions (Honeycomb, Éclair, Froyo and Donut) make up only 4.7% combined! Which Android OS is your favourite? Let us know in the comments below!

Well, that’s it for this week, but remember! We have all the Apple and Samsung accessories you could possibly wish for over at MiniInTheBox, and Free Shipping on everything! Isn’t that the best news of all?
