Wedding Wednesday: Lovely Reception Dresses

We’ve all heard horror stories about a bride who ripped her bodice, spilled red wine all over herself or sweated so much she stained her gown—and we don’t want to be that bride! But if you’re the kind of girl who’s had her heart set on an extravagant wedding dress since childhood, chances are you probably never considered just how restrictive and uncomfortable it can be to wear a gown all day long! So in this week’s post, you’ll see some lovely dresses that are comfy gown alternatives for your reception!

A growing trend among modern brides is to ditch the big gown after the ceremony & photos and change into an outfit that’s much more manageable. A quick wardrobe change can make a world of difference to a bride who wants to dance all night and doesn’t want to worry about ruining her wedding gown or being uncomfortable. And there are so many styles to choose from—anywhere from sexy and sweet to flirty and funky. In short, having a reception dress is practical, comfortable and fun!

Wedding Wednesday: Wedding Gown Tips Pt. 3

Welcome to the final installation of our Wedding Gown Tips report! Over the past few weeks you’ve seen lots of different wedding gown options for all different body types, and this week is no different! Here you’ll see some fab gowns for tall, petite and full figured ladies.

There are a lot of factors you should consider when shopping for that perfect wedding gown. Price, current bridal trends, your personal style and the season of your wedding are all things you should be thinking about! But one of the most important factors to consider is your body type. Picking a dress that flatters your unique silhouette is the best way to guarantee that you will look amazing on your wedding day.

If your specific body type isn’t featured in this week’s post, check out our Wedding Gown Tips Part 1 and Part 2 for more options. And, as always, our LightInTheBox Wedding Collection has more gowns than even we know what to do with!

Full Figured

If you’ve got it, flaunt it! Just avoid anything too clingy or too loose, they can both add pounds! These style dresses will show off your womanly curves and be flattering at the same time:

V-necks, scoop necks, sweetheart necklines, ball gowns, empire with a high waist (just under your bust line)

You should find a gown that accentuates your statuesque height! Make sure you pick a dress with a defined waist. Go for dresses with the following characteristics:

Deep v-necks, halter tops, open back, sheath silhouettes, mermaid/trumpet gowns, ball gowns

Smaller brides should stick with simple gowns; too much embellishments or appliqués will overwhelm your look. You should also go for a style that creates length. Try these styles to look your best:

Sweetheart necklines, halter tops, empire waists, a-line gowns, soft sheath/column (think Grecian goddess!)

Wedding Wednesday: Wedding Gown Tips Pt.2

Welcome to Part 2 of our Wedding Gown Tips! It’s every future bride’s dream to wow her husband-to-be as she walks down the aisle towards him. But not every bride knows exactly what she should be looking for in a gown. In this week’s post, you’ll see some great wedding gowns that are sure to make jaws drop!

To ensure that you not only feel, but look amazing on your big day, you need to keep in mind what body shape you have and choose a dress that flatters your silhouette. Here you’ll see dresses for apple-shaped, hourglass or straight body types that will ensure you look incredible on your big day!

Regardless of body type, each woman has her own style. So if these gowns aren’t quite what you’re looking for, shop around in our LightInTheBox Wedding Collection to see more fantastic options!

Apple Shaped

If you’re apple-shaped, go for a dress that draws the eye upward toward the bodice or neckline. Be sure to avoid ball gowns or sheath silhouettes! Try these styles:

Asymmetric necklines, deep v-neck, scoop neck, a-line or empire waists

Similar to pear-shaped bodies, you should accentuate the smallest point on your waist. Be sure to show off your curves, but stay away from fabrics that are too clingy or tight! These will look fab on you:

Off-the-shoulder, a-line, mermaid/trumpet, sweetheart necklines or dropped waist (to elongate the torso)

If you have a straight body type (athletic builds or broad shoulders), you’ll want to choose a dress that will lengthen your torso & disguise your shoulders. These styles will flatter you:

Bateau necklines, spaghetti straps, sheath/column, ball gown, mermaid/trumpet, a-lines, empire waists

Wedding Wednesday: Sassy Simplicity

A wedding and the reception that follows is a celebration—it should be fun and enjoyable for everyone! But wanting to have the most fun wedding around can sometimes break the bank! Not every bride wants to have an over-the-top wedding that is outside of her budget…and that’s where we come in. This week’s post will highlight some amazing picks that are perfectly sassy and simple (and great prices too!).

Wearing a simple wedding gown does not mean that your gown has to be plain! You can still wear your favorite dress style and you can still have embellishments—in fact, both of these options are perfect for a sassy look! The key here is to make sure that everything is well balanced and not too elaborate. Remember, less is more! The same rules apply to bridesmaids as well. If you’re having them wear a fun, vivid color then keep the dress style more modest. But if they’ll be wearing a neutral color then feel free to pick a funky dress for them!

Each dress featured here has that perfect balance of sassy and simple! Take a look around our LightInTheBox Wedding Collection for more options.

Kick up the sass level at your simple wedding by wearing a short dress! Adding a belt or crystal detailing can make it unique and the length allows you to show off a killer pair of heels!

Stick with one fabric and minimal embellishments and your simple, floor length gown is a go! Adding ruffles or beading can really take it to the next level.

Who said bright dresses couldn’t be simple?? Take a minimal design and sass it up by choosing interesting fabrics or vivid colors!

Wedding Wednesday: Celebrity Inspired Dresses

If there’s one thing we can all agree on about the Academy Awards from last weekend, it’s that this year’s red carpet fashions are simply stunning. Hollywood’s A-listers really know how to wow the at-home audience and the red carpet styles we saw were dramatic, striking and dazzling. This week’s post is dedicated to some of our hottest evening gowns that are inspired by celebrity style!

Red carpet gowns are usually daring and always chic, and the looks we saw on the red carpet at the 2012 Oscars didn’t disappoint—they were universally gorgeous! While certain silhouettes, colors or styles might look better on the fit and toned body of a celebrity, there’s no denying that each gown was beautiful and charming in its own way. And we got the special treat of seeing the hottest fashion trends in one place—vivid colors, long trains, plunging necklines and sequins!

Here are some of my absolute favorites from our Celebrity Dresses section, which one made the top of your list?

Wedding Wednesday: Beautiful Bridesmaids

From the proposal to the bridal showers, and all the way through to the bachelorette party, your bridesmaids have been there every step of the way! These women are your best friends and your closest family members, and they deserve to wear dresses that are both fun and flattering on your big day! In this week’s post, you’ll see some charming dresses that are perfect for your beautiful bridesmaids.

One of the hottest trends in bridal fashion right now is to have mismatched bridesmaid dresses. From mint green to coral pink, you choose the color and let your bridesmaids choose the style! If you’re going for a more casual look tell them to pick something knee-length or shorter and in a soft, flowy material like chiffon. Tea-length or floor-length gowns in satin or with lace accents create a more refined aesthetic.

With a whole rainbow of colors and a variety of styles, we’re certain you will find something you love! Check out our LightInTheBox Weddings & Events Collection for more inspiration.

Wedding Wednesday: Bridal Trends Report Pt. 1

As the saying goes, a new year, a new you! For all the lucky ladies getting married this year, lots of changes are coming your way. Why not start your new life by ditching last year’s bridal trends and embracing what 2012 has to offer? This week’s post is part 1 of a three part series that will showcase the top 10 wedding dress trends for 2012!

The spring 2012 trends are everything a bride could want—beautiful, charming, and somehow both simple and full of detail! Part 1 of our Bridal Trends Report focuses on three great trends we’ve been seeing on the runways, sexy slits, off-the-shoulder necklines and beaded bodices. And, best of all, following the latest bridal trends doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to break the bank!

Here are some seriously stunning wedding gowns that are both chic and affordable! Check out our LightInTheBox Wedding Collection for more elegant options.

Sexy Slits

Formfitting gowns have always been a wedding favorite, and now with these alluring slits, they’re more eye-catching than ever!

Off-The-Shoulder Necklines

Match this shoulder-baring style with a loose fitting skirt to give it a subtly sexy look. A loose skirt guarantees you won’t have to watch what you eat!

Beaded Bodices

Intricate beading on the top half and paired with a fairly simple skirt is right on trend. And don’t be afraid to go all out with the beading on the bodice, since you’ll be keeping it simple down below!

Fashion Friday: Sexy Slits

Between the fall fashion weeks in New York, Paris and Milan and the winter award season in Hollywood, we’ve been seeing lots of new looks from celebrities and models alike. After so many seasons of mini skirts and dresses, it’s nice to see the fashion world mix things up with its most recent trend—floor-length gowns with thigh-high slits. In this week’s post, you’ll see some amazing dresses that will make your jaw drop!

An important rule to live by is this: You can show off your cleavage or you can show off your legs, but never both. You don’t have to be a full-blown fashionista to know that less is more. Since all of the dresses displayed here feature that stunning thigh-high slit, none of them expose too much cleavage. That way, these gowns are subtly sexy!

Here are some of my favorite sexy fashions with gorgeous slits from our LightInTheBox Special Events Collection. Click a picture to go to the product page.
